How to Prepare Before Hair Transplantation
4 Weeks Before Surgery
• Massage your scalp following the doctor's recommendation.
• Don't have a haircut before your surgery. Let the donor area grow so there is enough for the transplant.
1 Week Before Surgery
• Stop taking Plavix and Aspirin.
• Stop taking Vitamin E and Fish Oil. These supplements can prevent blood coagulation.
• Stop taking all herbal supplements, especially Ginseng.
• You can normally take daily medicine except the doctor suggests you stop taking it.
5 Days Before Surgery
• Stop taking Minoxidil.
1 Day Before Surgery
• Stop smoking and stop drinking alcohol.
• If you want to dye your hair, do it 1-2 days before surgery since you cannot dye your hair for 1 month after the procedure.
On the Day of Surgery
• In the morning, wash your hair with the medicated shampoo from the clinic. Leave it for 5 minutes then rinse (wash twice).
• Wear a button-down shirt.
• Do not wear clothing that needs to be pulled over your head on surgery day and for 2-3 days after, to prevent damage to hair cells.
• You can have breakfast normally but avoid tea and coffee.
• Have someone pick you up after surgery, as you will receive anesthesia during the procedure.
After Getting Hair Transplantation
– Take painkillers following the doctor's recommendation or when feeling itchy.
– Take antibiotics for 5-7 days after surgery or as prescribed by the doctor.
– In the first week, avoid hitting your head on hard surfaces such as door frames, to prevent damage to transplanted hair cells.
– Avoid drinking alcohol for 48 hours to prevent bleeding and reduce swelling.
– Place a rolled towel under your neck to protect the wound from the pillow.
– Sleep with your head slightly elevated to reduce swelling and pain.
– The wound at the back of your head can be treated by gently scrubbing while washing.
– Do not scratch the wound while washing your hair.
